Our first Featured Designer is Yael Scharaby, Textile Designer, from Andy ve Eirn.
Where do you get your design inspiration ?
Basic and simple geometric shapes are my greatest source of inspiration. I love minimalism and clean lines that create beautiful shapes. On principle, I always design clothes I would be happy to wear.
How would you define your city’s fashion?
My city, Tel Aviv, has a very monochromatic color pallet, shops in Tel Aviv usually only have white, grey and black, red is not an option. The style is usually sophisticated casual with a lot of attention to small details, Items are very versatile and mostly loose and oversized.
*When did you realize you wanted to become a fashion designer?
When I was younger, I wanted to become a lawyer, but a casual stroll in the mall changed my plans. I noticed a woman sitting in a shop, embroidering peacefully. It was so inspiring that I instantly knew that this is what I wanted to do with my life.
*What was the first article of clothing you ever designed?
The first item I ever designed was a knitted jacket, that I knitted on a manual machine. I attached to the Jacket 420 small knitted pieces that I made myself to create a very messy look, it was awesome.
Do you produce locally?
Yes, it is very important to me to produce locally, keeping the Israeli industry alive.
